"Off to the Races Again"
(Article written by Maxine Harris and Bev Hammer)
After a busy 2008 tax season, the employees of Kirsch CPA group were “off to the races” again. Only this time, they were not the ones participating in the race. They were enthusiastic observers of the race horses at Keeneland Park in Lexington, KY.
Our day began with everyone – team members, spouses and children – meeting at the Fairfield office. Breakfast foods and drinks were abundant. Our bus arrived and once loaded, we left the parking lot at 9:30 am. While traveling, everyone was given the “assignment” to guess what time it would be when our bus pulled into the Keeneland gate. We had two winners (Bev and Ariel) who guessed within one minute of our arrival time of 11:24 am. Another activity tested our memories with a crossword puzzle. The answers were all names of famous horses. The three winners of this task were Melinda, Becky and Bev, who worked together to complete the puzzle.

Finally, the bus was divided into two teams to participate in a game of “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?” Team 1 flunked out fairly early, but Team 2 proved that they were definitely smarter than a fifth grader as they made it all the way to the million dollar question and correctly answered it! Having a retired teacher on your team helps!

Upon arriving at the race track parking lot, the employees joined the large group of “tail-gaters,” who were already enjoying the late morning sunshine. Tables were set, overflowing with a delicious lunch of pulled pork, barbecue ribs, potato salad, baked beans, green beans, chips and dips, fresh fruit, veggies and dip, chocolate chip cookies, and brownies, along with a variety of drinks, including mint juleps. Some of the employees played games of “corn hole,” while others relaxed and conversed in the sunshine. Read more
